Tata Steel UK & British Steel face order cancellations due to US tariffs

Tata Steel UK and British Steel executives have stated that the 25% US steel and aluminum tariffs imposed by President Trump have led to order cancellations and compensation claims from customers.

Rajesh Nair, CEO of Tata Steel UK, emphasized that the tariffs have negatively impacted the UK steel industry, with US customers shifting to other suppliers to avoid tariff-related issues.

Tata Steel UK operates the country’s largest steel plant, exporting about US$100 million worth of steel to the US annually. Nair warned that cheap steel would now flood the UK market, further damaging local industries.

Nair also stressed the need for greater protection for the UK steel sector, advocating for short-term measures to safeguard businesses and ensure fair competition.
