Taiwan's steel pipe industry urges CSC to seek government negotiation on US tariff reduction or cancellation

US President Trump announced that the steel and aluminum tariffs were raised to 50%, which caused a heavy blow to Taiwan's steel pipe exports to the US. At the pre-market meeting of the steel pipe group last Friday, steel pipe factories reflected that the goods that had not arrived at the port were required to reduce prices and absorb part of the tariffs, and the delivery of undelivered orders was suspended.

Faced with the US steel and aluminum tariffs, the more orders the industry receives, the more losses it may suffer. In addition to oil pipes, some standard pipes and sports equipment pipes are also affected by tariffs. Some industry players suggested that China Steel Corporation (CSC) ask for the government's negotiation with the US on the 50% steel and aluminum tariffs for tariff reduction or cancellation, or at least treat them the same tariffs as Japan and South Korea.

However, some industry players also said that the US is no longer a good target market, and there may still be policy changes in the future. It is better to turn to other markets.
