Salzgitter subsidiary HKM has partnered with Tenova to build Germany's largest electric arc furnace in Duisburg, backed by EUR 200 million in government funding.

Scheduled for completion in 2029, the facility has a 2.5 million metric ton capacity and uses continuous Consteel® technology for high energy efficiency and reduced load peaks.

This project integrates HKM into Salzgitter's low-carbon steel strategy, enabling sustainable production using scrap metal and sponge iron across a wide range of steel grades.

Implementation begins in August 2026, advancing the company's objective to supply competitive green steel for industrial value chains.
