Primetals Technologies is modernising Shougang Shunyi's pickling line tandem cold mill's (PLTCM) automation infrastructure, including a major drive revamp, to ensure reliable, future-proof operations ahead of an August 2026 completion target. 

The upgraded systems will extend the life of existing control platforms, simplify maintenance, and reduce operating costs, while a new Level 2 platform introduces advanced process models and improved data management for greater control accuracy and process stability. 

Together, these enhancements will support the production of high-end cold-rolled steel for automotive and home appliance markets, solidifying Shougang Shunyi's standing in the premium steel segment. 

Critical to the migration is minimising risk and downtime, which is where Primetals Technologies' Chart Converter plays a central role. This advanced software application automatically converts legacy code to the new TIA S7-1500 platform with complete functional equivalence, enabling a fast, cost-effective return to full production.
