Poland announces steel industry sustainable development action plan

Poland’s Ministry of Industry has released a draft Action Plan for the Steel Industry’s Sustainable Development, aiming to address challenges like high energy use, foreign competition, and environmental red tape.

The plan focuses on six strategic areas: competitiveness, energy, ecology, decarbonization, circular economy, and security. Key measures include reforming public procurement to block non-EU green-standard steel, expanding energy-intensive enterprise compensation, simplifying environmental procedures, promoting renewables, funding low-carbon R&D, and easing scrap imports.

While a “quick response” to the industry’s crisis, the plan serves as the foundation for its development strategy through 2050.
