SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp. is set to commission its new section steel plant in Batangas within 2026, marking the country’s first-ever domestic production of structural steel.

The Lemery-based facility will focus on small to medium sections and angle bars, helping replace imports and reduce reliance on foreign supply. In parallel, the company has partnered with Danieli to build another large rolling mill in Quezon, forming a more complete product portfolio. These projects aim to significantly cut imports of products like H-beams and sheet piles, which are currently fully sourced from abroad.

With additional investments and a planned electric arc furnace (EAF) in Candelaria by 2027, SteelAsia expects to nearly double its yearly capacity to around 4.8 million tons, strengthening domestic steel self-sufficiency.
