MorGen Energy greenlights 20MW Welsh green hydrogen project

MorGen Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Trafigura, has approved the final investment decision for its West Wales Hydrogen project in Milford Haven.

Situated on a former oil refinery, this 20MW electrolyzer-based hydrogen production will start construction in 2026. The project represents a major step in the clean energy transition, aiming to produce 2,000 tons of low-carbon hydrogen annually for industrial and port use.

Supported by the UK Government’s Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1), the initiative uses revenue incentives to bridge the cost gap with fossil fuels. In addition to creating skilled jobs, the plant expects to cut CO2 emissions by more than 15,000 tons per year.

This approval shows rising confidence in scalable green technology across the European landscape.
