China's Guangdong Wantai Supply Chain Co., Ltd. and Kazakhstan's state-owned Taraz Industrial Enterprise have started building a new metallurgical plant in Taraz, Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan.

The project is expected to cost 61 billion tenge. Once fully operational, the plant will produce 1 million metric tons of steel products a year, including hot-rolled steel, stainless steel products, welded and galvanized steel pipes, and rebar.

The first phase of the project is expected to begin operations in the first quarter of 2028. Construction is expected to create 500 jobs, while the completed steel plant will provide 260 permanent jobs.
