Leaders at Vietnam’s steel manufacturer Hoa Phat have addressed online videos about a fire at their Dung Quat steel complex in Quang Ngai province, clarifying it was a minor iron water leak last week at the Dung Quat 1 facility. A senior leader explained that the incident was due to a faulty part of the refractory brick kiln and caused insignificant damage.

He stated repairs are underway and the kiln is expected to resume normal operations within one to two weeks. The company said such leaks are occasional and this one caused only minor disruption, similar to past unnoticed incidents at the Hai Duong facility.
