The Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) has initiated a comprehensive evaluation of its Steel Climate Standard to align with current science and industry practices.

This two-year process examines emissions measurement methodologies, certification criteria, and decarbonization frameworks. Since its adoption in August 2023, the standard has enabled members to eliminate nearly 3 million metric tons of CO₂e through verified reductions across various production methods.

Stakeholders, including producers, buyers, and policymakers, may submit feedback during the initial comment period from April 9 to June 23, 2026.

GSCC’s Executive Director Adina Renee Adler said that the review ensures the framework remains a relevant benchmark for the global steel value chain. Further engagement opportunities, such as technical sessions and forums, will occur as the review progresses.
