EGA restarts alumina production at Al Taweelah refinery in Abu Dhabi

14 Jul 2026 16:03 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), a premium aluminum producer based in the UAE, has resumed alumina production at its Al Taweelah refinery in Abu Dhabi. Production should reach 50% capacity within days, with technical capability to achieve full operations projected by the end of 2026, depending on supply chain conditions and sourcing strategies.

Operations halted on March 28, 2026, after regional attacks on the Khalifa Economic Zone. The site resumed hydrate production on June 24 before restarting alumina output.

EGA noted that production rates at the adjacent Al Taweelah smelter do not depend on the refinery reaching maximum capacity. In 2025, the refinery produced 2.4 million tons of alumina, fulfilling 46% of EGA's total requirements for the raw material.
