Duferco secures GSCC certification for emissions intensity & climate targets

The Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) has certified Duferco Travi e Profilati S.p.A.’s Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity (CASEI) and Science-Based Emissions Target (SBET), expanding GSCC’s certified community in Europe.

GSCC said the certification reflects continued progress in advancing measurable decarbonization. Duferco produces steel from recycled ferrous scrap and operates its San Zeno Naviglio facility using green energy, contributing to emissions reductions. GSCC noted that nearly 3 million tons of CO₂e have already been avoided through independently verified reductions.

Duferco’s CASEI and SBET were verified by RINA Services SpA. The company reported a base emissions level of 1.13 metric tons of CO₂e per ton of hot-rolled steel in 2022. It targets 1.01 tons by 2030 and 0.12 tons by 2050, aligned with GSCC standards.

The GSCC Steel Climate Standard, adopted in August 2023, provides a framework for measuring and reporting steel emissions and supports efforts to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
