China's steel exports rise in Apr, boosted by strong production

12 May 2025 14:23 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, China's steel exports reached around 10.46 million tons in April, slightly increasing by 0.1% compared to the previous month and rising by 13.5% from the same month a year ago.

High domestic steel production and weak local demand led to the export surge. With robust steel production in April, exports in May and June are expected to remain high, supported by existing shipping contracts.

China's daily crude steel output exceeded 2.2 million tons in April. Meanwhile, steel imports in the month rose by 4.2% month on month but fell by 21% year on year to 522,000 tons.

In the first four months of this year, China’s steel exports amounted to 37.89 million tons, up by 8.2% year on year, while imports were 2.07 million tons, down by 13.9% year on year.
