Century Aluminum celebrated a US$50 million expansion of its Mt. Holly plant on July 27, boosting US primary aluminum output by 10% and increasing its South Carolina workforce to over 600, crediting Trump's Section 232 tariffs.

CEO Jesse Gary joined Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and other officials at the ribbon-cutting, marking the plant's first full production in over a decade. 

Gary also announced a forthcoming Oklahoma aluminium smelter with Emirates Global Aluminium, the first new US smelter in more than 50 years, which will more than double domestic production and create 5,000 jobs.

The project is expected to add US$74 billion in GDP and US$181  billion in economic output through 2060, the beginning of a new chapter for aluminum production in the US.
