Celsa France raises wire rod output with Primetals Technologies’ upgrade

7 Nov 2025 15:23 reported by Joy Liu

Celsa France successfully completed a wire rod mill upgrade in Bayonne, and subsequently issued the final acceptance certificate (FAC) to Primetals Technologies. This project involved replacing the finishing block and reform station, resolving repeatedly unplanned downtime issues caused by prior third-party equipment.

The upgrade featured a new 10-stand Morgan Vee No-Twist Mill capable of stable, reliable operation at speeds up to 105 meters per second for low-, medium-, and high-carbon steel grades. This change increased overall mill productivity and reduced maintenance costs.

The new equipment also included a patented ring distributor in the reform tub, which ensures tangle-free payoff and significantly enhances downstream processing efficiency.
