On May 12, 2025, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) launched investigations into the alleged dumping of steel strapping imports from China, South Korea, Turkey, and Vietnam. The CBSA will also probe whether these products from China are subsidized. These practices can negatively impact Canadian industries by lowering prices, which disrupts fair competition.

These investigations were based on a complaint filed by JEM Strapping Systems Inc., the only steel strapping producer in Canada. The CBSA will determine if these imports were sold in Canada at unfairly low prices and if Chinese imports benefited from unfair subsidies, thereby injuring the domestic industry.

A preliminary decision, including any provisional duties, is expected within 90 days.
