Baosteel Co., Ltd. reduced its annual carbon emissions by more than 2 million tons in 2025 through a CNY 3.2 billion investment in energy-saving and low-carbon technologies.

According to its newly released sustainability report, these yearly results involved comprehensive technical upgrades, process optimizations, and green electricity adoption.

By the end of 2025, the steelmaker lowered its carbon intensity to 1.960 tons of carbon dioxide per ton of crude steel, an 8% drop from its 2020 baseline. The main drivers behind this reduction included the operation of a million-ton hydrogen-based shaft furnace for near-zero carbon manufacturing, an expanded portfolio of low-carbon steel products, and a smart carbon data platform that digitizes emission accounting.
