Aluminum supply threatened by Middle Eastern industrial damage

30 Mar 2026 15:08 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
The regional attacks last Saturday have damaged key aluminum facilities in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, threatening 9% of the world's supply.

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) reported significant damage and injuries at its Al Taweelah site, while Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) continues to assess its facility.

Besides physical destruction, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has trapped metal inventories, driving global prices upward. Goldman Sachs warns these rising costs will burden international economies.

Although EGA utilizes offshore stocks to meet current demand, the path to normal operations remains uncertain. This disruption is particularly relevant to the US, where the UAE serves as the second-largest aluminum supplier and a major investor in American manufacturing and recycling plants.
