6 Aug 2025 14:24 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Alcoa of Australia Limited (Alcoa), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alcoa Corporation, has entered a joint development agreement with Japan Australia Gallium Associates Pty Ltd (JAGA), a joint venture between Sojitz Corporation (Sojitz) and Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), to explore the feasibility of a gallium production project. The facility would be located at one of Alcoa's alumina refineries in Western Australia.

Gallium, a critical mineral for the technology and defense sectors, is currently dominated by Chinese production. This partnership with JAGA aims to create a new supply chain for this vital material. The partners are targeting a final investment decision by the end of 2025, with production potentially beginning in 2026.
