AISI: US raw steel production in week ending May 9 grows w-o-w, y-o-y

According to statistics from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), US raw steel production increased to 1.88 million net tons for the week ending May 9, 2026, with a capability utilization rate of 81.4%. This volume represented a 1.3% increase over the 1.856 million net tons produced during the previous week. Compared to the same period in 2025, weekly output rose by 9.3% from 1.72 million net tons.

Cumulative year-to-date production through May 9 reached 33.285 million net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 78.1%. This output was 6.3% higher than the 31.302 million net tons recorded during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was at 76.2%.
