China to launch anti-discrimination investigation on Canada’s tariff hike

4 Sep 2024 15:36 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Regarding Canada's tariffs on imports of electric vehicles and steel and aluminum products from China, the Ministry of Commerce of China said it will launch an anti-discrimination investigation on Canada's measures.

Additionally, China will institute anti-dumping investigations on rapeseed imports and related chemical products from Canada.

China will also appeal these practices to the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement mechanism.

It was understood that it is China's first and the world's first anti-discrimination investigation.

China planned these countermeasures following Canada's announcement to impose a 100% surtax on China-made electric vehicles (EV) and a 25% surtax on steel and aluminum imports from China, effective on October 1 and 15 this year, respectively.
