On October 20, the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) initiated the anti-dumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) investigations on aluminum foil imports from Armenia, Brazil, Oman, Russia, and Turkey.

The AD investigation was to determine whether the subject products from Armenia, Brazil, Oman, Russia, and Turkey were being dumped into the US market and whether Oman and Turkey’s producers or exporters were receiving unfair subsidies from the government.

The investigations were launched based on the complaints filed by Aluminum Association Trade Enforcement Working Group and its individual members, including Gränges Americas Inc., JW Aluminum Company, and Novelis Corporation.

The alleged dumping margins for Armenia is 45.65%, that for Brazil is 63.05%, that for Oman is 57.74%, that for Russia is 62.18%, and that for Turkey is 34.27%.
