Indian government rejects request from Indian Steel Association

A spokesman for the Indian Steel Association (ISA) said that due to trade disputes between China and the United States, Chinese steel has flooded into India. This has caused an increase in recent steel imports in India. Therefore, the association applied to the government for a 25% protection tax on steel imports.
However, this measure was rejected by the Indian government on August 21st. At the same time, the ISA's request was also opposed by the majority of Indian steel consumers.
Moreover, related steel consumers said that the import volume of several steels has declined in the past few months. Therefore, the claim to protect the ISA was not supported.
The ISA said it would continue to appeal.
