Canada plans to impose retaliatory tariffs if US implements tariffs

21 Jan 2025 16:45 reported by Ocean Qu

A A A
In response to US President Donald Trump's proposal to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods, Canadian officials are planning to impose retaliatory taxes on US products, including aluminum and steel. The tariffs would be comparable to, or possibly even exceed, those imposed on certain US imports in 2018 when the Trump administration first imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

The Canadian government is awaiting Trump's executive order and will introduce protective measures. Representatives from various industries, including the automotive sector, unions, agriculture, and other industries, have been organized to coordinate efforts in response to Trump's tariff threat.
