Wuyang Iron and Steel has ordered a record-breaking 1-strand continuous caster from Primetals Technologies, destined for its Wugang plant in Henan province. This caster aims to be the world's most powerful, capable of producing the thickest slabs up to 460 millimeters.

With this new addition, Wuyang will manufacture plates for heavy-gauge applications, including shipbuilding and wind turbines, achieving an annual capacity of one million tons of high-quality slabs. Compared to traditional ingot or vertical casters, Primetals' bow-type continuous slab caster offers superior cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

Primetals' Single Roll DynaGap (SRD) segments enable dynamic roll gap alignment, adjusting to changes in steel grade, cooling, and casting speed. These segments exert forces equivalent to 15 fully loaded trucks, ensuring sophisticated slab microstructures and consistent mechanical properties.
